Welcome !

The CU ASHRAE Student Chapter was founded in Fall 2009 by students from the Architectural Engineering Department and the Building Systems Program at CU Boulder. Any student interested in HVAC technologies and practices should join this chapter! The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers is a great network of professionals including engineers, suppliers and organizations from all over the world. The CU ASHRAE Student Chapter organizes different activities to expose students to the field of HVAC and sustainable building design. The activities include, but are not limited to, field trips, the ASHRAE Student Night, seminars and conferences.

Membership

Students are encouraged to join ASHRAE through http://www.ashrae.org/students/. Membership gives access to the Monthly ASHRAE Journal, the ASHRAE Insights, the HVAC&R Industry Newsletter, Publication Discounts ....The CU ASHRAE Student Chapter also annually collect $10 per student in order to be able to schedule the different activities. Handbooks

The handbooks published by ASHRAE are daily used by HVAC professionals. They are good reference guides for HVAC design. Student members can buy them at a reduced price from the ASHRAE Bookstore. More information on http://www.ashrae.org/publications/page/1279

News

Nov 4, 2009: A lot of students attended the ASHRAE Fall Student night organized by the Rocky Mountain ASHRAE Chapter in Denver, CO. Four scholarships of $1000 were given to students. A presentation on commercial solar system design was given by Jim Schreiber of Shamrock Sales. This event was a great opportunity for students to network with other people working in the HVAC field. The CU ASHRAE Student Chapter thanks ASHRAE for the support and look forward to attending the next events.

Jan 19, 2010: We visited the University of Colorado cogeneration power plant. Students were able to look at the main components and ask questions about the operation.

Feb 18, 2010: Dr. Michael Brandemuehl from the Civil Environmental and Architectural Engineering Department and graduate BSP students Penny Cole and Knud Hermansen reviewed the activities at the recent ASHRAE 2010 Winter Conference.

Feb 27, 2010: The CU ASHRAE Student Chapter visited the New Belgium Brewery in Fort Collins, CO. An overview of the sustainable features of this brewery was given along with beer to students!

Upcoming activities:

Monday March 1st, 2010, 7:30pm ECCE 1B41:
